Juridicum revisited

Short excursion organized by the Department of Building Construction
Tuesday, 21 March 2023, 9:00 to 10:30 am

The building of the Faculty of Law at the University of Vienna was absolutely avant-garde in terms of construction in the 1970s. The difficult initial situation: a narrow building site and extensive space requirements; the design goal: an open democratic university (in the wake of the 1968 student revolts); the technical solution: an innovative column-free suspended construction.

A radical design born of the times. How do we judge the bridge construction and the curtain wall with its integrated heating system today, under changed conditions? Has the architecture stood the test of time?

Arch. DI Reinhardt Gallister, one of the former architects of the building, collaborator of Prof. Arch. Ernst Hiesmayr, will guide us through the building.
