Architect Regina Freimüller-Söllinger guided us through the construction site of her current project in 1120 Vienna, Tivoligasse 11. The building consists of a continuous, landscaped concrete plinth, which houses a shop, communal rooms and car parking spaces, and above it four apartment blocks built entirely of solid wood. The balconies and open air corridors are supported by steel and reinforced concrete frames. The spatial and constructive concept offers a high degree of flexibility and thus guarantees the long-term usability of the building. The use of regionally harvested wood saves 75% CO² compared to conventional reinforced concrete construction and makes the building almost completely recyclable at the end of its life cycle.
